As many of you know, Opal have made it their mission to help in saving the rainforest through their yarn. This year alone they have handed 210,000 EUR that they have raised to “Save the Rainforest” at the fair-trade H & H 2019 in Cologne.
The team have informed us that the donations have led to great things, including the following:
–The Chief Minister of the Malaysian state has saved 47,000km2 Amazon rainforest reserve by getting construction companies to expand existing roads and avoid fragmenting forests for the Pan Borneo Highway.
–2,000 hectares of land and forest in Sepintun now officially belongs to the local indigenous people which means it’s off-limits to loggers and industrial agriculture, as well as being a safe haven for Sumatran elephants that are critically endangered.
“Our big concern is that the Rainforest areas can be bought and put under protection with the donations” –Opal
To keep up this amazing progress, we continue to stock the Rainforest Range which contributes to the donations. Check out the latest range Rainforest 15 on our site and help make a change. http://www.viridianyarn.com/product/opal-rainforest-15-coming-soon-july/
